1998, Strasbourg's LUG is happy to announce the “Journées du Libre, seconde édition”, on 26th and 27th March 1999, in Illkirch, near Strasbourg (France). >This main purpose of this event is to present Free Software in general and Linux in particular to a large audience. The official language used for the lectures, demonstrations and exchanges will be French (or, as a default, English). >Version française
The Public
During the first edition, we observed that it would be useful to divide the audience to two broad categories of users of Free Software: profesionals and the general public. The Free Software Days will therefore present (over two days) a set of lectures, presentations and demonstrations intended for each of these audiences. A form with a list of questions will be submitted to each visitor and will allow to establish a report for our sponsors and to evaluate the public's satisfaction level.
The Stands
Linux and the Free Software are growing in importance and many companies have announced that they will port their star products to Linux or that they will make equipment available that runs Free Software. Those companies have been requested to be there as sponsors for the Free Software Days. The following companies have confirmed that they will be present : Cobalt Networks, Applix France, Getek, Alcôve, SuSE, RedHat France (les Logiciels du Soleil), O'Reilly Publishing Company, Arkane Media, Oracle, RBS, France Telecom, ABC, Transtec, JWay, Prodial/Hexalis, Sun France, Medasys Digital Systems. The sponsors can refer to the page that is intended for them to determine the **conditions for their participation and to reserve a stand**.
The Lectures
The themes of the lectures are linked to the two audiences of
